Colonic hydrotherapy is promoted for digestive issues such as bloating, colitis, constipation and indigestion. It is also touted for completely unrelated problems that include arthritis, alcoholism, allergies, lethargy, asthma and skin conditions.
Digestive health is critical because our gut plays a huge role in our overall health and well-being. The bacteria in our gut makes up about 70% of our immune system, it helps us to maintain a healthy weight, it keeps our mood balanced, and it ensures that we are maximizing the nutrients from the food we eat. More and more conditions are being linked to imbalances in the gut, and individuals are searching out ways to improve their health through the treatment of their gut.
Colon hydrotherapy is one treatment that can help improve your gut health. Colon hydrotherapy, or colonics, is a gentle method of rinsing the colon with warm water, to expel fecal build-up and mucous plagues. This method of colon cleansing enables essential nutrients to be absorbed more effortlessly, removes harmful bacteria, and leaves you feeling revived and lighter. Colonics can also help your colon return itself back to its original, healthy form. If you have experienced years of constipation, gas, bloating, and other issues, this can leave the colon malformed, prone to build-up, and not effectively eliminating. Exercising the colon with colonics builds the health and function of the colon, bringing about better bowel movements and decreasing gas and bloating.

Why choose Open colonics?
Out with the old, in with the new
The ‘Open System’ is the newer type of colon hydrotherapy, whereas the ‘Closed System’ is the old way of doing colonics. Why is there a newer system? Because it’s regarded as much safer, gentler and more effective than the old method of colon hydrotherapy. And when it comes to colonics, at the end of the day they are a medical procedure and we want our clients to have the best treatment available, which is why we use the ‘LIBBE’ Open System equipment, internationally recognized as the best colon hydrotherapy equipment available. It is also why many of the old Closed System therapists eventually update to the Open System, as it can be viewed as better for the client.
Out with the old, in with the new
UCleanse uses an open system called LIBBE. The open system is very gentle and is usually the better choice for clients who have any type of bowel disease. The open system is generally regarded as more comfortable and private than conventional closed systems. Unlike closed systems in which the water is pressurized, the LIBBE system is a safe and gentle gravity-fed system complete with ultra-violet water filter/purification, odorless venting and automatic water temperature control. After receiving your initial guidance to use the system, you are in control of your experience and given the option of privacy.
The water used in the open method is gravity fed, so there’s no pressure at all. This makes it safer than the closed method where the practitioner is basically pumping you full of water to the pressure they deem appropriate. In the open method you will feel when you’re full and naturally push out, rather than rely on the therapist’s judgement. The open method is also safer in that you’re putting the tube inside yourself, so will feel what is the right angle etc. and of course will stop and seek assistance if there is any discomfort. This helps to prevent any damage to the rectal opening. Also the tube used in open colonics is small, soft and flexible, unlike the speculum used in closed colonics.
People love that our system is self-administered in privacy. It makes the process of colonics a lot less daunting. Our colon hydrotherapist is available to assist you if you press the buzzer at any stage during your session, so you can feel safe that help and professional advice is available if required. Most people prefer to be left alone during colonics though – pooing is a private process!
Which one’s more effective?
When you have a colonic, you want to get the most effective treatment possible, right? Whilst both Open and Closed treatments will help eliminate accumulated waste from the entire 5 and a half feet of your colon, the Open System is widely accepted as being more thorough for a few reasons. With the Closed System, the therapist has to hold the tube inside your bottom to fill you up, then decide when to empty you. But the Open System is much more intuitive – clients are able to listen to their body and engage their colon muscles to release water and waste whenever they want to, just like you’re going to the toilet at home. This motion helps to strengthen and tone your colon muscles, improving your peristalsis (the action of your colon muscles squeezing waste along your colon). A regular complaint about Closed colonics is that they can weaken your muscles and impair your ability to have a bowel movement, whereas the Open colonics in our clinic actually improve your ability to have a bowel movement at home.
We want you to feel comfortable
Clients often complain about feeling ‘overfilled’ with Closed colonics, because it relies on the therapist emptying you when they decide it’s right. That doesn’t happen with the Open system, you can release whenever you want, so let that poop go whenever you like for the most comfortable treatment!
The procedure
At the beginning of your session, you will be taken into the colon hydrotherapy room. Your therapist will do a thorough consult and walk you through the process, instructing you on how to insert the nozzle yourself and how the system works. To make sure you fully understand and feel safe. After giving you instructions, the therapist will leave the room and you will disrobe from the waist down, sit on the system, insert the nozzle and cover from the waist down with the provided blanket. You will then call the therapist with the call button that is on the system and the therapist will begin the session. Water will flow from the nozzle into the colon causing the process of peristalsis to begin and you will naturally eliminate waste into the system. The therapist will make sure you are taken care of during the entire session while also allowing times of privacy.
Preparation And After-Care
WATER CONSUMPTION
You do not need to chug water leading up to your appointment. Drink what makes you feel comfortable without feeling like you’re forcing fluids in preparation for a colonic.
After receiving Colon Hydrotherapy, and once the body has rested, it is important to drink plenty of liquids (purified water, juices, herb teas and naturally occurring electrolyte liquids such as Coconut Water).
EATING
If you’re not on a cleanse, stop eating 4 hours before your scheduled appointment. This will make your colonic more comfortable as your body will not be digesting and eliminating at the same time. Failure to do this can result in nausea and occasionally vomiting during your session. To avoid this, do not consume alcohol the night before your treatment. Please do not come in hung over for a first appointment. Following your appointment, we suggest eating food that’s easy on your digestion.
Following a cleansing of the large intestine, the body may feel weary or relaxed. This is simply your body working out and processing through its cleaning period; proper rest is important at this time to give your body time to rejuvenate. Once you have rested, it is recommended to follow a diet of no meat, no alcohol, no strenuous activity, and any other harmful substances including artificial food substances and processed foods, for the 24-48 hours.
A simple smoothie, some whole fruit, or a light salad are best to enhance the body’s ability to cleanse itself, keep yourself hydrated and nourished sufficiently.
SUPPLEMENTATION
If you are constipated, some people find taking a therapeutic dose of a water soluble magnesium the night before and after your treatment to be helpful. Please stop all fiber supplementation, stool softeners, and laxatives before coming in.

Frequently asked questions
This system allows the client more control & privacy during their treatment.
One distinct advantage with the LIBBE device is the small pencil-thin rectal nozzle, which clients find extremely comfortable, compared to other systems. Your privacy is protected at all times, the specially designed bed allows you to easily insert the lubricated thin rectal nozzle by yourself. Many people find this deeply reassuring and comforting.
Once the water flow is turned on, there is no need to interrupt the cleanse.
Your colon will gently take in as much water as it can tolerate. When you feel the need to evacuate, you simply release. Because of the continuous inflow and release during the treatment, the body’s own muscles are used to provide a more natural, gentle release. At the same time, the peristalsis (action of the muscles of the colon) is greatly stimulated and this provides an excellent workout for the colon. Because of the nature of the LIBBE device, the qualified therapist does not need to be with you all the time. This affords you as much privacy as you may desire.
No fasting is necessary prior to a treatment, although for greater results and a deeper tissue clean, once you are totally familiar and comfortable with the therapy, fasting and Colonics can be practiced together.
